Serena Williams Facing Possible Fine of One Million Dollars

Serena Williams could face the largest fine in tennis history when she is penalized for her behavior at the US Open.

There are several rumors that said the International Tennis Federation’s grand slam committee was close to reaching consensus on the Williams case and there are suggestions a $1 million fine could be levied, along with a good behavior bond.

Williams has been cited under the sport’s code of conduct for committing a major offense.

Williams allegedly threatened to kill a lines woman in New York, saying: “If I could. I would take this f—ing ball and shove it down your f—ing throat.”

ITF grand slam administrator Bill Babcock has completed his investigation, taking evidence and submissions from Williams and the officials directly involved on the day.

Those findings will be discussed in London tomorrow by the four members of the grand slam committee.

Geoff Pollard (Australian Open), Jean Gachassin (French), Tim Phillips (Wimbledon) and Lucy Garvin (US) will meet to assess Babcock’s recommendations.

The group has the power to overturn, or vary, Babcock’s verdict and they can also ban Serena from the US Open 2010 edition.

Officials are expected to release the Williams decision after next week’s Davis Cup final in Barcelona.
