Ana Ivanovic’s ACE Tennis Magazine interview
Before she started her US Open 2009 quest, Ana Ivanovic did an interview by Britain’s ACE Tennis Magazine… here we have an extract from the Q & A session:
ACE: Is there something you’ve experienced off the court that stands out?
AI: As tennis players we are very fortunate to get the chance to travel the world and play in nice places. In some ways I also feel as though tennis opens up new doors for me. Becoming an ambassador for UNICEF was thrilling; I am happy to have the opportunity to do that kind of work.
ACE: Do you think that you could ever do what Clijsters has done?
AI: It’s very hard. I would love to have a long career and settle down when it’s over, rather than stop and start again.
ACE: What’s the best thing about being a professional tennis player?
AI: The best thing is to be doing what you like and travelling the world. I love tennis and I love competing. You also get a chance to meet different people from different countries and experience their customs.
ACE: And the worst?
AI: As much as travelling is the great part, it’s also hard, because you’re away from home, family and friends and that can be tough. Another hard thing is that, even when you’re having a tough day, you still have to perform in front of so many people. If you are just a normal person in the office and you have a tough day, it’s just for yourself.
ACE: Do you think being in that spotlight will always take you by surprise?
AI: I think so. I don’t think any training can help you for that; you just have to adjust and adapt, I guess, and accept and learn as you experience it. But that’s what we do.
