Yanina Wickmayer appeal against doping bans
Yanina Wickmayer fell foul of anti-doping regulations and was suspended for 1 year from the Sony ericsson WTA Tour but she has appealed against their one-year ban to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Wednesday. Yaninas was not the only one to receive this punishment, her compatriot Xaviar Malisse has been ban as well.
“Yanina Wickmayer and Xavier Malisse have filed appeals at CAS against decisions taken by the Vlaams Doping Tribunal of Gand, Belgium, in which they were found to have committed an anti-doping rule violation,” a CAS statement said.
Wickmayer was suspended after breaking the controversial whereabouts rule — that requires players to notify their country’s doping agency where they can be reached on a daily basis—three times. But she claims she was not properly informed of the online reporting requirements for drug-testing that led to her ban.
CAS said a decision would be announced within four months.
