Lots of money will be spent to stage the Centennial Invitation tennis exhibition between Maria Sharapova and Venus Williams in Hua Hin.
Co-hosted by the Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand and the city of Hua Hin, the exhibition will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the resort town and will be played on Janury 2nd 2010.
“The meet is designed to create awareness of tennis among fans but also to boost Hua Hin tourism,” said Suwat.
The friendly match will be held on a temporary court with a capacity to seat 4,000 people at the Hua Hin Centennial Park.
“I am delighted to be able to spend my New Year in Hua Hin, Thailand,” said Sharapova, who is battling to find her best form again after arthroscopic surgery a year ago to repair her right shoulder.
“I am sure it will be an exciting time and I am looking forward to competing in the Centennial Invitation.”
Williams is also excited.
“I have very fond memories of my previous visits to Thailand and am really looking forward to returning for the Centennial Invitation match in Hua Hin,” she said.
The exhibition between Sharapova and Williams will be followed by a one-set mixed doubles match featuring Paradorn Srichaphan and Danai Udomchoke.
Channel 3 will broadcast the matches live from 3pm.
