Sony Ericsson Championships: Jelena Jankovic reaches semifinals in Doha after beating Caroline Wozniacki

Jelena Jankovic defeated Caroline Wozniacki 62 62 to advance to the semifinals of the WTA Sony Ericsson Championships.

Jankovic broke twice in the first set and then took a 4-0 lead in the second. Wozniacki looked very tired after winning her two previous matches on Wednesday (she beat Victoria Azarenka) and Thursday (she beat Zvonareva) and often a step slow and failing to chase down balls.

Caroline can still advance if Victoria Azarenka loses to alternate Agnieszka Radwanska, who replaced Verz Zvonareva, later Friday.

Jankovic lost to Azarenka in her first match, then won her second when the injured Dinara Safina retired in the third game.

“I just came out playing aggressively,” Jankovic said. “I really wanted to dictate the points.”

“I didn’t really know what to expect from her today. I saw what happened to her yesterday but I just concentrated on trying to win the match and get through to the semi-finals. I tried to dictate the points and attack because I know how good she is in the long rallies.” she added.
