Linz: Yanina Wickmayer beats Petra Kvitova to win Generali Ladies title

Yanina Wickmayer beat Petra Kvitova 6-3, 6-4 to win the Generali Ladies title in Linz.

Wickmayer won five straight games from 3-3 to take the opening set and start the second with a break. Kvitova broke back immediately, but dropped serve again to trail 3-2. Wickmayer wrapped up the victory on the first match point when Kvitova sent a forehand into the net.

“It was an unbelievable week for me,” said Wickmayer. “I am so happy I pulled this one through. It was a tough match against Petra, who has done so well here all week.”

Kvitova sent many of her groundstrokes wide or long. She who won in January at Hobart but had not been beyond the quarterfinal stages of a WTA Tour event since then.
