China Open: Ana Ivanovic withdrew from the China Open, ends 2009 season
Ana Ivanovic has withdrawn from the China Open due to an upper respiratory infection and decided to end her 2009 season.
Ivanovic said that it has been a very disappointing season and that her body was “quite fragile” following a combination of too much training and not enough recuperation.
The Serb said she had to rework her serve after Wimbledon to accommodate a sore shoulder.
“I guess having to withdraw from Beijing is an appropriate ending to a very disappointing season,” she said.
“I am sorry to my supporters who were hoping to see me play here in Beijing. It’s very disappointing for me as well, to come here, see the amazing facility they have and not have the energy to be able to step onto court.”
