China Open: Serena Williams hopes to shop and play in Beijing

Serena Williams arrived a few days ago to Beijing and when she talked to the press she said that she was hoping to have time to hit the Chinese capital’s many markets in between her matches at the China Open to do some shopping.

“I have been to the Great Wall of China and that was amazing and good to see. I’ve been to Tiananmen Square and have done so many tours,” said Serena.

“I’ve been a complete tourist, so this year, I’ve decided I want to do more of the markets and shopping—maybe get some jade and things like that.”

In the opening round of the China Open Serena Williams will play against Kaia Kanepi. The younger of the Williams sisters wants to do well here to end the year in a high note and forget about what happended during her semifinal match at the US Open.

Serena and Venus are in the same side of the draw and they could meet in the semi-finals.

Their road to the final won’t be easy because on their side of the draw there is also Jelena Jankovic, Maria Sharapova and Svetlana Kuznetsova, but Serena said she was up to the challenge.

“They are all really good players. (…) I really enjoy playing tough matches and it will be good to see how I hold up,” she said.

The action at the China Open began today so let’s hope to enjoy some great tennis from Asia !!
