Wimbledon Final: Serena Williams vs Venus Williams As It Happens

14:33: Was that an ace? No, Serena got the edge of her racket to it but it was as good as. Vee holds to 15 – again – and it’s 4-3.
14:31: Venus serves at 119 mph (marginally faster than yours truly) but Serena returns with interest, gives her the run-around and puts away a forehand. Interesting…
14:30: Threes, as the ‘Re holds to lurve.
14:29: Ace no.4, 40-0.
14:26: Venus holds to 15 to lead 3-2. Big services dominating at the moment.
14:23: 2-2 as Serena holds to 15. Neither player has dropped a point on first service yet.
14:21: Best rally so far. Venus comes in and Serena clips the line as she passes her. 15-0.

14:18: Venus’ turn to hold to love. 2-1 to the Vee at the moment.
14:16: Serena starts with an ace. Hmm. Two statements there then on first point. She also holds to love. Like last year, she’s got the bit between her teeth early doors. 1-1.
14:14: 1-0. Venus holds to 30.
14:12: First point to the ‘Re after a double fault! Vee’s had an attack of the Dinaras! She then serves and follows up big. 15-all. Phew.
14:11: OK, here goes!
14:02: Venus calls heads, and that’s how the coin comes down. She elects to serve.
14:00: Out come the sisters! No.2 seed Serena first, followed by five-time champion and No.3 seed Venus! Venus has that heavy strapping around her left knee still and almost seems to be walking gingerly. I’m sure it won’t hamper her movement on court, however.
13:56: Lovely and warm out there now – no danger of roofage. The band has just walked past me on their way to Centre Court – any minute now…
13:39: The rain has stopped (it was only really light drizzle) and the roof is still open. Just been to have a chat with Rog – he seemed very calm and gave off an air of assurance, but you could sense that he knew that he was on the verge of greatness, and that the nerves were maybe starting to kick in.
12:54: Ooh, it’s just started spitting with rain! Will we have a roofed final?
12:54: 2006 (Mauresmo – Henin) was the only final this decade without a Williams.
12:52: Here’s a few fast facts for you: Serena has 10 grand Slam titles (4 x Aus, 1 French, 2 x Wimbledon and 3 x US), Venus has seven (5 x Wimbledon, 2 x US). The only non-Williamses to win at Wimbledon this decade are Maria Sharapova (2004) and Amelie Mauresmo (2006).
12:15: Don’t forget that as well as this here As it happens, we’ll be twittering from the Centre Court, so sign up here.
10:38: It’s a lovely day for it, by the way. Warm, blue skies with a few fluffy clouds drifting over.
10:30: Good morning one and all, I’m Drew Lilley welcoming you to day 12 of The Championships 2009! And what a day we have in store for you – we have The Final of the Ladies’ Singles at 2 pm (that’s Re versus Vee to you and me), followed by Bob and Mike Bryan versus the Belgrade Boys Nestor and Zimonjic, and then Re and Vee are back again to face Stubbsur – Sam Stosur and Rennae Stubbs. It’s all American for me today – Venus in two, Bob and Mike in three, Vee and Re in two. But what do I know? Actually, write in and tell me what I don’t know and who you think will win today and why.
