Wimbledon 2009: Venus Williams beats Bondarenko at Wimbledon

Venus Williams has advanced to the third round at Wimbledon by beating Kateryna Bondarenko 6-3, 6-2.

Williams wore a strap on her left leg Thursday but moved about the court freely, charging forward to win 17 points at the net to two for Bondarenko.

Playing the day’s first match on a sunny Court 1, the No. 3-seeded Williams lost only six points on her serve, two on double-faults. She hit three aces in her first service game and finished with six.

Williams played her best at the end, sweeping the final four games. She’s seeking her sixth Wimbledon title and third in a row.
