Caroline Wozniacki advances at Swedish Open
Caroline Wozniacki advanced to the second round of the Swedish Open after defeating Sofia Arvidsson 6-1, 6-3.
Wozniacki broke Arvidsson twice in the first set and once in the second. Wozniacki saved all three break points she faced on the clay surface.
Dominika Cibulkova defeated Sandra Roma 6-3, 2-6, 6-1, while Flavia Pennetta beat Francesca Schiavone 6-2, 7-5.
Maria Kirilenko and Ellen Allgurin also advanced with straight-set wins, while Petra Kvitova won after Julia Vakulenko retired with a right wrist injury when trailing 6-3, 4-1.
The Swedish Open returned to Bastad for the first time since 1990, when it moved to Stockholm. The men’s tournament, held in Bastad since 1948, starts next week.
