Wozniacki, Dementieva and Radwanska cruise at Indian Wells

Caroline Wozniacki scored a 6-3 3-6 6-0 victory over Nadia Petrova to reach the quarter-finals of the Indian Wells WTA tournament. In her next tennis match she will meet Zheng Jie, who defeated Alicia Molik 6-3 4-6 7-6.

Wozniacki broke her opponent three times in the final set to wrap up victory in one hour 47 minutes.

“It was a match where it just went up and down quite a bit,” Wozniacki said. “You didn’t really know what to expect. It was not really a great rhythm there and I didn’t feel the ball as well. But I’m just happy that I fought through and I won the match. That’s the most important thing. I just think that I will be more ready for the next match.”

Elena Dementieva and Agnieszka Radwanska each advanced in relatively comfortable fashion at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

Ashley Harkleroad to return to WTA tour in Miami Sony Ericsson Open

Ashley Harkleroad to return to WTA tour in Miami Sony Ericsson Open

Ashley Harkleroad will be playing in Miami with a protected ranking of No. 70. The American tennis player took a leave from the tour in October of 2008 to have her first child, Charlie, with her husband and coach, Chuck Adams.

“I don’t think I’m ready yet but I need to get jump-started on my tournaments so that I don’t lose my protected ranking,” Harkleroad said. “I’ve only been practicing hard for a month, but I’m hitting well and my movement is coming back slowly. I am excited about returning but I also love being a full time mom so I guess time will tell.”

Harkleroad is allowed to play eight tournaments under her protected ranking and also accept wild cards. She reached a career high No. 39 in 2003.
“I am hoping I’ll find my game and enjoy everything during the process. I have to try and see if I like tennis plus baby.” she added.

Samantha Stosur breaks into the top 10

Samantha Stosur breaks into the top 10 Samantha Stosur breaks into the top 10

Samantha Stosur has break into the world’s top 10 thanks to her fourth round 6-2 7-5 victory over Vera Zvonareva at Indian Wells.

In the quarterfinals of the BNP Paribas Open, Stosur will play against Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez and for now she wants to concentrate in just that.

“I try and stay focused on what I have to do to win the next point and the next game. You know you can think about those things afterwards.”

Stosur’s coach and Australian Fed Cup Captain David Taylor said “reaching the top 10 is obviously a goal for every player growing up.”

“Sam is only the third Australian female in 20 years to achieve this significant benchmark and she has worked really hard to come back from a career threatening illness and truly deserves this recognition. It’s only two years ago she was well outside the 100 and despite the arduous travel to achieve this WTA ranking, Sam continually supports her national team at the Fed Cup at every opportunity. I believe she has further room for improvement in her game and is constantly trying to become a more complete player. The next few years will be very exciting for her.” He said.
